Applying alignment principles with modified techniques and props, Michelle’s inclusive and empowering teaching approach seeks to make the practice of yoga accessible and fun for Chicagoans of all body shapes and sizes, abilities and conditions. In addition to teaching weekly Yoga Basics group classes, she leads workshops and teacher trainings on addressing larger body, aging, expectant and new mother, and other specialized populations.
Teaching since 2011, Michelle completed her 200-hour hatha yoga teacher training, including studies in vinyasa flow and prenatal yoga, through Global Yoga and Wellness Center, Chicago, a Yoga Alliance®-registered school, under the direction of Rhonda Kantor. She earned a certificate to teach HeavyWeight Yoga®, designed for overweight and obese students, through the instructor intensive program with Abby Lentz of Heartfelt Yoga, Austin, Texas. She also earned a certificate for Advanced Gentle, Senior, Chair Yoga, Somatic Yoga and Therapeutic Yoga under the guidance of Justine Shelton and Sherry Zak Morris of Yoga Vista Academy, Vista, California.
Michelle’s yogic journey began in 2008. Her career as a marketing freelance writer and editor, glued to a computer all day, and obsessive, workaholic tendency contributed to a sedentary lifestyle. Striving for a healthier work-life balance, she tried yoga. With the gracious encouragement of her teachers, her passion for practicing yoga grew beyond her expectations. Enjoying greater balance in body, mind and heart, she felt inspired to share the gift of yoga through teaching others.
